Charles Izac is a man,
although he made some dreadful mistakes in
the past, has been living his life as a responsible, law-abiding
citizen for over 25 years. He has been faithful to God, his wife
and family and has made a conscientious effort to serve the
community in which he lives. He has assisted neighbors with
landscaping projects, was involved in an "adopt a highway" program
and has assisted a nearby church with it's ministry.
Mr. Izac has been known by some in the federal court system as an
armed career criminal. This is only because of records that are on
file, some of which are not even true. Because he had
committed a crime back in 1979, a non-violent crime, those in
authority chose to railroad him by creating other crimes which he
did not commit. Because of this he is not able to obtain a
firearm. He knew this, but when an armed neighbor threatened to
burn down his house and destroy everything he and his wife had,
being the only person at home, he really had no choice but to
retrieve his wife's firearm in order to diffuse what would other
wise have been a devastating situation.
He now faces a fifteen year prison sentence and potentially a life
sentence. Keep in mind that this was only an act of self defense
and no harm was ever intended by him towards his neighbor.
Many agree that this is a very serious miscarriage of justice and
that Mr. Izac did nothing to warrant a lengthy sentence. His
lifestyle is anything but one of someone that is considered to be
an armed career criminal. Anyone who agrees should act in whatever
way possible: this includes contacting public officials, writing
to the newspaper and general spreading the word that the "three
strikes" statute includes too many people like Mr. Izac who are
attempting to live a serene, law-abiding lifestyle.
Pray that God will enlighten not only you but the court system as
to what can be done to return this wonderful man to his loving
family and the community which he serves.
Thank you
Ann Izac
